【Elementary】G5 - Rice Field Project ~Harvesting and Threshing~

After a few months wait, the rice has grown to harvest.

Firstly we learned the safety rules for harvesting.

We carefully cut the rice plant,

making sure that the sickle is facing outside.

The cutter starts as the teacher puts his foot on the pedal.

“Hold it tight!!” he shouts.

We need to be careful because when the leaves get caught, we might get pulled into the machine.

After collecting the threshed harvest, we sift it through two different kinds of nets.

“Who thinks we got a lot of harvet today?”

“Who thinks we didn’t?”

Many students thought they didn’t get much out of today’s harvest.

From here on we will wait another month or so, then we husk and polish the rice to transform them into what we see on our dishes.

We’ll end up with something a lot less than expected.

It’s all clear now.

If we water it and fertilize it again,

we can actually have a double-cropping in one year.

It may be a little too late to grow something we can eat now, but we can surely grow the seed rice for the fifth graders next year.
