Today's AMICUS 2018 / 10 / 12

【Elementary】&【Junior High School】German Exchange

A group of students from Germany
came to visit today.

These same German students spent time together with AMICUS students during the exchange program this past Summer Break.

Our students were all excited to meet them…. and for those who visited Germany, it was a reunion of old friends!!

They started with a ceremonial welcome, and listened as students of the lower grades sang a welcome song.

Then they split into smaller groups and joined different classes, ranging from grades 6 to 9.

Willkommen in unserer shule AMICUS!

(Welcome to AMICUS!!!)

In a big voice, students welcomed their guests.

Ich will euch begrussen und das ich so:  Hallo~  Hallo~

~Roughly translated~
We would like to welcome you.
Hello, Hello.)

It was a song they practiced with the music teacher, for this special day.

Then they moved to the G6 classroom. At this point, most students were still a bit nervous, so… the teacher suggests an “ice-breaker”.

A simple game of “Choo-Choo-Train”, where the loser of “Rock-Scissors-Paper” assumes a position behind the winner.
The easier the rules, the more fun it became.
They all had a lot of fun!

Next, students made their own “picture letter”.
They took time to draw a picture of things and ideas associated with Okinawa…such as the hibiscus (flower), go-ya- (vegetable/plant), the Shi-sa- (dog-like figurines), etc…along with a short message.

“You draw very nicely!!”

It was surely a good drawing,
with an interesting perspective.

They also played a guessing game, where AMICUS students had to guess what the German guests had chosen to write on their flip boards.  Categories ranged from food, people, cartoon characters, and even kanji.

The first problem was described as… “something tasty”, “a common Japanese dish”, “fish”…. One student guessed “SUSHI!!!”.
Well, the first problem was a bit too easy….

The last one was extra, where our guests were requested to make gestures to describe a character.

They held a stick in one hand, a ball in the other, then used the stick to pierce the ball….

“PPAP!!!”

They got it right, of course.  Guessing the whole PPAP figure made it pretty big in Germany, too!

The program was concluded with speeches by hosting students, who had traveled to, and stayed in, Germany.

They shared the best memories of their exchange experience.

Guests enjoyed playing basketball with junior high students in the afternoon.  Wow!!  Can they play basketball!!!?

The exchange session was lots of fun, but it came to a quick end.
Our guests then went home with their respective host family…
and we hope their weekend activities were lots of fun, too!!

Wir hoffen Sie wieder zu sehen!!!  (Hope to see you again!!!)
