At AMICUS Junior High School, students take part in a two-day, one-night overnight learning trip each year, with each grade traveling with its own learning objectives.
This year as well, students set off for their destinations filled with excitement—and a touch of nervousness!
Through encounters with Okinawa’s rich natural environment, lessons drawn from its history, and opportunities to reflect on peace, the students gained many valuable insights through hands-on experiences.
It was a meaningful and fulfilling two days of learning beyond the classroom.
【7th Grade – Exploring the Nago Area】
For the 7th graders, this trip marked their very first overnight learning experience since entering junior high school. Before departure, some students showed slightly nervous expressions.
During the trip, they visited the Okinawa City Museum of Postwar Culture and History, Histreet, which connects to their learning for this year’s Performance Day, as well as 21st Century Forest Park and Ocean Expo Park.
While staying at the Nago Youth Center, students also worked together to try outdoor cooking activities.
Spending time in nature, learning about local history and culture, and engaging in group activities, the students gradually developed a sense of cooperation and responsibility. Their growth through teamwork left a strong impression.

【8th Grade – Learning about the Battle of Okinawa in Nanjo and Itoman】
The 8th graders traveled to the Nanjo and Itoman areas with the goal of learning about the Battle of Okinawa.
They stayed at the Tamagusuku Youth Center and visited historical sites including Kakazu Ridge, the Former Navy Headquarters, the Himeyuri Peace Museum, and Okinawa Peace Park.
At each site, students quietly and attentively engaged with the history and the feelings of those who lived through it.
By learning what happened in the past and reflecting on what they can do today, the students shared a valuable opportunity to face the realities of the Battle of Okinawa together with their peers.

【9th Grade – Marine and History Experiences on Tokashiki Island】
As the senior class, the 9th graders traveled by ferry from Naha to Tokashiki Island, where they stayed at the National Okinawa Youth Center.
On the first day, they challenged themselves with kayaking, canoeing, and various beach activities, followed by an evening BBQ where they enjoyed spending time together.
On the second day, they went on a hike from the accommodation to the East Lookout. Along the way, they visited historical sites such as remnants of Ryukyu Kingdom-era signal fire stations and former U.S. military facilities, listening to stories about the Battle of Okinawa and the island’s history.

Surrounded by beautiful nature, supporting one another as a group, and reflecting on the peace passed down through generations, the experience became a deeply memorable one for the students.
