The AMICUS Junior High School English Speech Contest

Today, we held the AMICUS Junior High School English Speech Contest. Twelve students, representing their classes, stood on the stage and shared their thoughts and ideas in English.

In this speech contest, students are judged by the same standards, regardless of their nationality or grade level. Expressing one’s ideas in English and speaking in front of many people is not easy. However, all of today’s speeches were truly wonderful. I was deeply moved by each speaker.

The topics were different. Students spoke about internationalism, diversity, leadership, service, compassion, inquisitiveness, human rights, adventure, and other themes. However, I felt one common message in all of the speeches. The students started from their own experiences and interests, and then connected them to bigger issues in society and the world.

I was also impressed by the way they thought seriously about these questions: “What can I do?” and “What small action can I take?” In their speeches, I could feel the growth of AMICUS students.

Many speeches also shared important messages: accepting differences, continuing to ask questions, and taking one brave step forward can help create a better society. I believe the students who listened to the speeches also learned many things from their friends’ words.

The twelve students who spoke today were truly excellent. I am sure they felt nervous, but they tried their best to express their thoughts in their own words. Their attitude was very impressive, and I felt very proud of them.

At the same time, I would also like to recognize all the students who wrote speeches, even if they did not stand on the stage today. Organizing their ideas, choosing their words carefully, and trying to express themselves in English is a very valuable learning experience. Whether or not they joined the contest, I believe all students gained something important through this process.

At AMICUS, learning English is not just about studying English as a school subject. It is about using English to express our ideas, connect with others, and think about society and the world. Today’s speech contest showed us that this kind of learning is truly growing in our students.

I hope our students will continue to grow as AMICUS students who have their own opinions and can express them with confidence. I also hope they will continue to respect differences, keep asking questions, and take brave action.

To all the students, thank you very much for your wonderful speeches today. I am truly proud of you.
