Recently, our Grade 1 students and their parents came together for a special family event!
This time, they explored Okinawan food culture by making yushi tofu, a soft, traditional Okinawan tofu.

They started with whole soybeans! Working together with their parents, the children took turns turning a heavy stone mill (ishiusu) to grind the soybeans.
Next, they squeezed the ground mixture to extract fresh soy milk, which was then gently heated in a pot.

The children watched with curiosity as the soy milk gradually transformed into soft, fluffy yushi tofu! It was a fun, hands-on way to discover how tofu was made and learn more about a familiar food.

The tofu they had made themselves tasted extra special! Smiles filled the room as the children exclaimed, “Yummy!” and asked for seconds.
A big thank-you to all the parents who joined us and helped make this event such a wonderful experience!
