Today's AMICUS 2020 / 01 / 27

Welcome from Yamada town!

Yamada town in Iwate prefecture sponsors a program called, “English Camp.”

This is the third time to welcome them at AMICUS as a part of their program.

This time, students from grade 5 to 11 came to study at AMICUS on January 21st and 22nd.

On the first day, Yamada students looked surprised and nervous when they stepped into AMICUS;

seeing some foreign teachers and classes delivered in English.

But they were getting along with AMICUS students as soon as they joined the classes.

On the second day, they had a special class together.

Yamada students told us about Yamada town, the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred in 2011,

and how they are reconstructing afterwards.

AMICUS students also had presentations of; how they felt about the earthquake when they learned about the incident;

and about the Shuri Castle that burned down last year.

Yamada town and Okinawa are both trying to “reconstruct”, and this program made them think about what they can do.

At the end of the event, they sang “Hiyamikachi-bushi” which was made from a Ryukyu poetry

in order to encourage people in Okinawa after the battle of Okinawa.

There had been lots of learning for both Yamada and AMICUS students for these two-days spending time at AMICUS.

Thank you very much Yamada students!
