Do you know about the SDGs?
The SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, are 17 global goals set by the United Nations to be achieved by 2030, with the vision of “leaving no one behind.”
At AMICUS Elementary School, the SDGs Committee (12 students from 5th and 6th grade) chose three goals to focus on: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Responsible Consumption and Production. As a concrete action, the committee organized a Food Drive!
The committee members created posters, gave presentations during morning assemblies, and encouraged the whole school to participate. Thanks to their efforts, from September 16th to 24th, students from kindergarten through 9th grade brought in food items from home. The collection boxes quickly filled up with snacks, rice, and packaged foods! All of the collected food was handed over to the Uruma City Council of Social Welfare, who will distribute it to those in need in the community.
When reflecting on the activity, one student shared, “So many of my friends joined in and helped. I’m filled with gratitude, and I want to keep being someone who can take action for others!”
By planning, calling for action, and carrying it out themselves, the students experienced a true sense of accomplishment. Through this food drive, they realized that “our actions can make a difference in society.”
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported this activity!
At AMICUS Elementary School, we will continue to value activities that connect us with our local community and the world, and we will keep supporting our students as they take on new challenges.
