Watching Our Students Walk Toward the Stage

On Wednesday, November 26th, the rehearsal for Performance Day was held at the Kadena Culture Center.

That morning, while I was helping with traffic duty at the school gate, a smiling second-grade student came to me and asked,

“Principal, are you coming to the rehearsal today?”

When I answered, “Yes, of course!”, the student looked very happy.

That moment warmed my heart.

A long time ago, I was a homeroom teacher at a junior high school. A homeroom teacher is always close to the students. They share everything together — learning, events, happiness, and sometimes frustration.

Later, when I became a grade leader and then a curriculum coordinator, I sometimes felt lonely during events because I was no longer in the center of the students’ group.

Now, as the principal, I sometimes feel even farther away from the students. There are moments when it feels a little lonely.

That is why the simple question from the student —

“Are you coming?”

— made me feel included. It felt like the students invited me to be part of their team, and it made me truly happy.

Today, students are still practicing hard for the final rehearsal.

The Grade 6 band is learning with the support of two guest teachers, Ms. Makino and Ms. Teruya. We are also very thankful to Ms. Inagaki for helping with the piano accompaniment.

I would also like to express my sincere thanks to the parents who helped with costumes and supported us behind the scenes.

The teachers are working hard too—fixing stage props, checking details, and making sure everything is ready. Even though they look a little tired today, they are still smiling and doing their best.

I am deeply grateful for their dedication.

The big day is coming soon—this Sunday.

I am truly looking forward to watching our students shine on stage, together with all of you.
