Autumn Reading: Cross-Grade Reading Exchange📚

As Okinawa’s hot summer slowly comes to an end, we are beginning to enjoy the cooler, more comfortable autumn breeze.
At AMICUS, we held our annual Literacy Fortnight Program from September 14 to 30!

Throughout the program, students explored the joy of reading through a variety of activities, such as creating their own Book Recommendation Cards, producing a Read-Aloud Video with the Library Committee, and joining an SDGs Book Swap, where they exchanged books and discovered new favorites!

One of the highlights of the program was the Cross-Grade Reading Exchange!

Students from different grade levels, who don’t usually get to work together, paired up and connected through shared reading time.
Kindergarteners and 5th graders, 1st and 6th graders, 2nd and 7th graders, 3rd and 8th graders, and 4th and 9th graders teamed up as reading buddies. The older students read picture books aloud to their younger partners with warm voices and smiles, while the younger students listened with shining eyes and full attention.
With excitement about what story would come next, they shared the joy of picture books. It was a heartwarming experience that brought students from different grade levels together.

After story time, the students also had fun making their very own original bookmarks!
Using the AMICUS logo created for our 15th anniversary, each student added their own colorful touches to create a special bookmark.
It was wonderful to see each student’s personality shine through in their unique designs, and the children were so happy to show off their finished bookmarks!

We hope everyone discovered lots of wonderful books during the Literacy Fortnight Program!

Through books, students built wonderful connections that went beyond grade levels. It was a joyful and inspiring time, full of laughter, learning, and the shared love of reading!
